Deep Roots, with Eyes on the Future

The year 2024 brought challenges that inspired fresh perspectives and innovative approaches. The global wine market entered a period of recalibration following the post-Covid boom, characterized by a slowdown in consumption, shifts in purchasing habits, and evolving international markets. These dynamic changes required adaptability and strategic foresight.

In the vineyard, we also contended with a meteorologically complex year that demanded extraordinary effort. Yet, the unwavering dedication of our team was rewarded during the harvest with grapes of exceptional quality—grapes that, once again, perfectly capture and express the essence of our land.

Beyond these challenges, 2024 was also marked by two significant milestones. Chief among them was the centenary of the Chianti Classico Consortium, established in 1924 by 33 visionary producers, including Luigi Ricasoli. This anniversary celebrated a century of dedication to quality in a region that has been a pioneer of modern viticulture, first recognized and protected as early as 1716 by Cosimo III de’ Medici.

As Francesco Ricasoli remarked during the 100th-anniversary celebration last May, “Grandfather Luigi and the other founders envisioned a future that we have been privileged to live.” It was a moment of pride for an entire region where Ricasoli has played—and continues to play—a leading role, harnessing research and innovation as pillars of an unwavering commitment to excellence.

At the same time, we commemorated the tenth anniversary of the Gran Selezione category, introduced in 2014 to represent the pinnacle of Chianti Classico. Ricasoli championed this initiative from its inception, and today it proudly encompasses four labels in this prestigious collection: Castello di Brolio, Colledilà, Roncicone, and CeniPrimo. These four distinctive interpretations of the terroir consistently earn international acclaim. For example, from the 2021 vintage alone, Castello di Brolio received high honors with 97 points from James Suckling, while Colledilà was featured in Wine Spectator’s Top 100.

These achievements not only affirm past successes but also inspire us to continue along the path we have chosen. As Francesco Ricasoli often emphasizes, “Our mission is to keep innovating without ever losing our connection to history and the land.”

Thus, 2024 concludes with a deep sense of unity within the Ricasoli team, which has faced this year’s challenges with steadfast dedication and professionalism, demonstrating the determination and flexibility necessary to pursue excellence.
